Steven Spielberg Lists Denis Villeneuve's 'Dune' Among All-Time Favorite Sci-Fi Films, Picks Best Installment
Renowned filmmaker Steven Spielberg has voiced his profound admiration for Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" saga, declaring it one of his favorite science fiction films of all time. Speaking to Empire, Spielberg specifically highlighted "Dune: Part Two," which he regards as the finest work of the Canadian director. He also expressed his eager anticipation for the third installment, which is set to conclude the current storyline, hoping to see it ahead of its official release.
Spielberg further elaborated on Villeneuve's adaptation approach, comparing his reverence for Frank Herbert's novels to another master's treatment of classic literature. He noted, "I love the books [of the 'Dune' series] and I think his respect for the books is like Guillermo del Toro respecting Mary Shelley with 'Frankenstein.' He honored Mary Shelley the way I believe Denis has honored Frank Herbert."
The final chapter of Villeneuve's "Dune" trilogy is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026. Following this project, the director is reportedly set to take on the reboot of the James Bond franchise.
