Ubisoft Confirms The Division 3 is in Active Development
Despite previous concerns, development for The Division 3 is actively underway. Concurrently, its predecessor, The Division 2, is experiencing renewed growth, seven years after its initial release.
Worries about the series heightened when executive producer Julian Gerighty announced his departure from Massive Entertainment in early 2026 to join the Battlefield team at EA. However, developers were quick to reassure fans. Senior producer Fredrik Brönjemark confirmed that Gerighty's exit "is not a distraction."
Regarding The Division 3, our future and roadmap are already guaranteed. We know exactly where we are going and what we want to do.
While the sequel is being prepared, The Division 2 is breaking records. With the release of the "Battle for Brooklyn" expansion in 2025, the game reached an all-time peak of 27,482 concurrent players on Steam. Despite this success, the studio has stated it will not transition the project to a free-to-play model, opting instead to maintain its current monetization strategy, which "respects players."
Creative director Yannick Banchereau noted that the extensive experience gained from supporting the current installment provides The Division 3 with a significant technical advantage.
