Valve Denies Crimson Desert Refunds Amid AI Art Controversy
A controversy surrounding the use of AI technology in the development of the game Crimson Desert has led to widespread player complaints about difficulties with refunds. Gamers discovered AI-generated images within the game, which was initially not disclosed on the product page in Steam, leading to significant user dissatisfaction.
The developer, Pearl Abyss, subsequently acknowledged the incident, clarifying that these particular AI assets were not intended to be part of the final game version. Following the backlash, the company also updated the game's Steam page to include a notification regarding the use of AI technology. Despite these actions, a segment of the player base remained unhappy about the initial undisclosed use of AI in development.
Many players attempted to return the game, citing the AI controversy as their primary reason. However, those who had accumulated more than the standard two hours of playtime reportedly faced rejections from Valve for their refund requests. Dissatisfied users are now calling on Valve to implement an extended refund policy specifically for Crimson Desert, arguing that the unique circumstances surrounding the AI assets warrant an exception to the usual refund rules.
