Recent changes in Brazil’s child protection legislation have led to a significant shift for gamers in the country. Fans of Grand Theft Auto and other Rockstar Games titles recently discovered that the studio’s games are no longer available for direct purchase through its proprietary launcher and store in Brazil.
Rockstar Games has issued a statement clarifying that this decision is a direct consequence of new national legislation:
“Following the enactment of Brazil’s Digital Statute for the Rights of Children and Adolescents (‘Digital ECA’), players in Brazil can no longer purchase digital versions of Rockstar games through the Rockstar Games Store or Rockstar Games Launcher for players in Brazil.”
It’s important to note that this change only affects direct sales via Rockstar’s own platforms. Players who have already purchased Rockstar games will retain full access to their libraries. Additionally, all Rockstar titles remain available for purchase through other major digital storefronts, including the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store.
Furthermore, the ability to make in-game purchases, such as buying currency cards in GTA Online, remains unaffected by these new regulations.
