Will RAM Prices Drop? Google Unveils Breakthrough Technology

Google has unveiled TurboQuant, a novel compression algorithm poised to disrupt the memory market and potentially halt the soaring costs of RAM. This groundbreaking technology promises to revolutionize how memory is utilized, particularly for Large Language Model (LLM) tasks associated with generative AI.

Google claims TurboQuant can maintain the highest level of model accuracy while significantly reducing RAM consumption by an impressive sixfold. This efficiency could dramatically alter the landscape for AI data centers, which are currently facing immense demand for high-performance memory.

The market has already begun to react to this development. In the past week alone, shares of Micron, a leading memory manufacturer, have dropped by over 15%. Similarly, SK Hynix has seen its stock value decline by approximately 13% recently.

This shift offers a glimmer of hope for the entire hardware industry. A reduction in the “monstrous” demand for RAM from AI data centers could stabilize the market, alleviating the current pressure of exorbitant prices for both RAM and NAND Flash memory.
