Modern technology is revolutionizing game localization, making it possible to provide full voiceovers for expansive titles like Pearl Abyss’s upcoming action RPG, Crimson Desert. While the game currently offers only text-based localization, a significant portion of its Russian-speaking player base has expressed a strong desire for a complete audio experience.
Addressing this demand, SynthVoiceRu has stepped forward with an innovative AI-driven solution, releasing a full Russian voiceover for Crimson Desert. However, the development of this AI-generated localization wasn’t without its hurdles.
The team at SynthVoiceRu encountered numerous difficulties stemming from the game’s initial state. Issues included “crooked” (poorly implemented or formatted) subtitles, which were often missing in various scenes. They also faced a scarcity of audio files in the original English version and significant audio-to-text desynchronization.
“Due to developer errors, we had to spend an immense amount of time on testing and manually adjusting each line, working tirelessly from morning till morning. We’ve now achieved a release-ready version, fixing speech accelerations and decelerations, and largely eliminating frequent English words in story cutscenes. While rare audio breaks might still occur, we haven’t found a way to completely resolve them.”

Despite these considerable challenges, SynthVoiceRu successfully delivered the Russian voiceover for Crimson Desert just one week after the game’s official release, demonstrating the power and potential of AI in fan-driven game localization.
