At the Game Developers Conference (GDC), Valve presented updated statistics on Steam’s performance and lightheartedly addressed the ongoing hardware component shortages, humorously appealing to the industry for some random access memory (RAM).
The company reported that 5,863 games surpassed $100,000 in earnings on Steam in 2025. This represents a significant increase from previous years and, according to Valve, indicates a growing number of successful projects on the platform, challenging notions of market oversaturation.
Valve also highlighted the surging popularity of its Daily Deals program. The initiative saw participation from 1,500 games, with 69% of them being first-time participants. A remarkable 8.2 million Steam users purchased games through these offers, marking approximately a 125% increase compared to the previous year.
However, the most discussed segment of the presentation shifted from games to hardware. Amidst rising prices and component scarcity, Valve acknowledged the difficulties in developing new equipment. Company representatives quipped that there would be no new hardware announcements at GDC 2026 unless attendees were to “bring them some RAM.” Journalists present reported that the speakers even made a semi-ironic appeal to the audience:
If you have access to a large batch of RAM, we are in the market and ready to buy it.
